How do I customize the Start Menu?
Every program you have ever installed probably has created its own folder or icon on your Start Menu, eventually turning it into an enormous mess. It is possible to fix all this and set it up the way you want. This customization is for when you click on "Start" then on "Programs".

Step #1.
Load up Windows Explorer (the File Manager) and you will have a listing of all that is on your computer. Find the "windows" folder and double-click on it, this will cause the tree to expand and show all the directories underneath it.

Step #2.
Underneath the windows folder, look for a folder called "Start Menu" and double-click on it. This will cause the tree to expand again, the folder called "Programs" and double-click on it.

Step #3.
Look in the right pane and you will notice that this is the same as your "Programs" on the Start Menu. Now to customize it, for an example let's make a folder named "Applications". To do this, in the right window of Windows Explorer, right click anywhere and it will pop up a little menu select "New" then "Folder". You'll notice that the menu disappears and in the right pane a folder will be created called "New Folder". It is currently ready to be renamed just type in "Applications" and hit enter. Check to see that this is now on your Start Menu, go to "Start" then "Programs" and you should see your new folder called "Applications". Next single-click and hold on the folder called "Accessories" and drag this to your new folder called "Applications". Check to see that this is now on your Start Menu, go to "Start" then "Programs" and you should see your new folder called "Applications" and you it should now have another folder called "Accessories". Switch back to Windows Explorer and go to the menu "Edit" then "Undo Move" that will take the Accessories back out of "Applications". This is a nice safety feature, if you don't go fast you can correct any errors you make.

Step #4.
The rest is fairly easy, you can add things to folders by doing the right click and then selecting "New" then "Shortcut" and then finding the program to add. You can also drag other folders into another folder to get rid of some of the clutter. You could also select all the items in a folder and move them into another folder then delete that folder.

Note: Don't go fast and check what you are doing frequently via the "Start" then "Programs", and if you make a mistake, you can Undo what you did. Do this by either "CTRL"+"Z" or "Edit" then "Undo" in Windows Explorer.
